Home Learning

Home learning tasks are now being set via Seesaw

Dear Parents and carers,

Here are some points you may wish to consider when 'home schooling':

  • working with one or two children at a time is very different to a classroom setting where the ratio is more likely to be one teacher to 30 pupils and therefore the time spent with your child may be more intense;
  • structure to the day is important but does not need to be rigid;
  • ensure that brain breaks are regularly included (half an hour sessions might be better than hourly ones);
  • physical activity is important at the end of sessions;
  • ensure children know when the breaks will occur;
  • be creative/practical - learning does not only take place with a piece of paper and a pencil
  • watching a film can be part of a learning experience - set some discussion questions before you start;
  • play games;
  • consider your conversations: 'Can you solve this problem?' is very different from 'Do you know the answer?'
  • 'have a go' attitude is invaluable. Every failure is an opportunity to improve but ensure there are opportunities to succeed;
  • stay positive and encourage multiple attempts at a problem provides a far more powerful learning experience for children than being worried about getting it right;
  • Remember cooking, tying shoe laces, telling the time, gardening, bird watching etc are valuable experiences.

If you have any queries concerning home learning please e-mail the class teacher.  They may not be able to reply straight away, but will do their best to be helpful.
