Welcome to

Thorn Grove Primary School

Reading

Thorn Grove believes reading for pleasure is the entitlement of every child and we encourage children to enjoy reading and to read a wide range of literature.  We are proud to have taken part in and contributed to research and development projects with the Open University on Reading for Pleasure.

Reading Cloud - our school library system

The system allows pupils, staff and parents to view our school library catalogue online.

Every child from Reception to Year 6 has their own account on Reading Cloud.  Having their own account means children can:

  • Check their current loans, past loans and reservations
  • Write book reviews
  • Create a home library where they can manage the books they have at home
  • Add friends from school and chat with them
  • Set a status message
  • 'Like' books
  • Create an Avatar
  • Create reading list
The account can be accessed using the borrower barcode number as both username and password.

The system includes a fantastic feature called ‘Who Next’ which recommends new books and authors based on the books that your child has already read.  Parents can use this feature at home to help select their child’s next book.

Having the library accessible in this way and having parents engaged with reading, will help to support our commitment to improving literacy standards.

Children can log in to either design.

An app called 'iMLS Student' is available from the App Store and Android Market.

Accelerated Reader

We use the Accelerated Reader to support children in choosing their reading books according to their reading journey.  A child reads a book within their range, takes an online quiz on it and gets immediate feedback. Parents can access online, details and levels of books, so they can be confident it is at the correct level for their child.

Please click here for a guide to Accelerated Reader.

Children can access the quizzes here
