Nursery Admissions

Hertfordshire County Council has a duty to provide access to 15 hours a week of free early years provision for all three and four year olds. Full time provision is usually 3 hours a day, 5 days a week; part time provision would normally be fewer days per week.

Schools are directly responsible for offering nursery places at nursery schools/classes.

See Nursery Admissions on HertsDirect for further information.

In Year Applications

All local authorities have a statutory duty to coordinate all in-year admissions (primary and secondary)  for all maintained schools and academies.

This means that anyone wishing to apply for an in year school place must do so by applying to their own local authority and not to the school direct. All parents living in Hertfordshire must apply direct to Hertfordshire County Council using the in year application form.

Applications for voluntary aided and foundation schools and academies must also be made through the local authority by completing the in year application form although you should ask the school if they have a supplementary form you need to complete in addition to the Hertfordshire County Council form.

See In Year Applications on HertsDirect for further information and application materials and also to apply for a place.
